Scout Project

Earn a Merit Badge by Helping Pets in Your Town

NJ STRAYS would like to collaborate with scout troops and individual scouts because we believe our mission can help kids understand the importance of taking action in the community. Our projects also help scouts develop valuable leadership skills.

We currently offer two project opportunities:

Pet Food Drive

NJ STRAYS works with animal shelters in North Jersey and directly with the public when they need pet food and supplies. Teaming up with your school, local library, local businesses and other community partners, a Boy or Girl Scout can organize a pet food and supply drive. Donations will be given to needy pet owners or crowded shelters. We also run a pet food pantry out of our Maplewood headquarters.

Host a Microchip Clinic

Pets with microchips are much more likely to be reunited with their families after becoming lost or missing. Hosting a microchip clinic is a great way to help safeguard dogs and cats in your town. You'll learn to recruit and work with sponsors, find and rent a venue, and perform basic marketing and advertising tasks.

NJ STRAYS will help you every step of the way!

Either of these projects can be a fun initiative for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church or community groups, and other teams. They can also be used to earn patches, merit badges and even the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award or rank of Eagle Scout.
